A free, self-guided audio walk through Savannah's Historic District — 17 narrated stops from Forsyth Park north to the river. About 90 minutes on foot, best after dark. No app. No ticket. Just walk, and the stories find you.
The Forsyth Ghost Tour is a free, self-guided audio experience provided by The Wilder House ("the Provider"). By accepting, you agree:
The tour takes place on public streets, sidewalks, squares, and riverfront areas the Provider does not control. Surfaces may be uneven, poorly lit, wet, or under repair — including brick sidewalks, tree roots, curbs, and the historic cobblestones and steep ramps near River Street. You voluntarily assume all risks of participation, including trips, slips, falls, and other injury.
You are solely responsible for your own safety. Obey all traffic signals and laws, use marked crosswalks, and stay aware of vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Keep audio volume low enough to hear your surroundings. Never look at your screen while crossing a street.
You are responsible for judging weather and environmental conditions (heat, storms, lightning, flooding, darkness) and for stopping the tour if conditions become unsafe.
The tour is designed to be experienced entirely from public rights-of-way. Do not enter private property, gated areas, construction zones, or any posted or closed area. You are responsible for complying with all laws and City of Savannah ordinances.
In any emergency, call 911. The Provider does not monitor tour participation and cannot dispatch or provide assistance.
The route covers roughly 1.5 miles over about 90 minutes. Consult your physician if you have any condition affected by walking, heat, or exertion. Carry water in warm months.
Minors must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or legal guardian at all times.
To the fullest extent permitted by Georgia law, you — for yourself and on behalf of every member of your group — release, waive, and discharge the Provider, its owners, hosts, and affiliates from any and all claims, liabilities, damages, or causes of action arising out of or related to participation in the tour, including those alleging ordinary negligence.
By accepting, you represent that you are at least 18 years old and have the authority to accept these terms on behalf of every person in your group, including minors for whom you are parent or legal guardian.
If any provision is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in effect. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia. This experience is provided free of charge, as-is, with no warranties of any kind.
Headphones recommended. Stay aware of traffic and your surroundings — the ghosts can wait for the crosswalk. GPS mode keeps your screen on for the walk, so start with a good charge.
Savannah remembers — and now you carry a little of it with you. If you'd like to sleep where the tour begins, The Wilder House keeps two suites, three blocks from the park.
See the houseThe Forsyth Ghost Tour is a free audio walking tour of Savannah's Historic District: 17 narrated stops that begin near Forsyth Park and end at the Savannah River. Stories of the city's remembered dead — told at the places they happened — play automatically by GPS as you walk, or on demand from anywhere. No ticket, no app, no sign-up.
Every stop includes a full written transcript alongside the narration, so the tour works for deaf and hard-of-hearing walkers too. A live map with a direction beam shows where you are and where the next story waits. One honest note: the last stretch near the river crosses historic cobblestones and a steep ramp — wheelchair users and strollers can hear those final stops from the Bay Street sidewalk above.
The route runs north along Bull Street through Savannah's most storied squares — Monterey, Madison, Chippewa, Wright, Johnson — past the old Telfair Hospital, the Kessler Mansion, and the Cotton Exchange, finishing at the river where the city's memory runs deepest. It was written and built by the hosts of The Wilder House, an 1898 home three blocks from the park, in the neighborhood where the tour begins. Planning the rest of your day? About 90 minutes at an easy walking pace — 17 narrated stops from the Forsyth Park area north through the historic squares to the Savannah River. You can also do it in pieces; the tour remembers which stops you have finished.
At the old Telfair Hospital near the southern end of Forsyth Park, then north through the squares along Bull Street, ending at the river. If you'd rather not walk, tap any stop and listen from wherever you are.
No app — it runs in the browser. GPS is optional: allow location and each story plays by itself as you arrive at its stop, or skip GPS and tap stops manually. Headphones recommended.
The route follows well-lit, well-walked streets — Bull Street and the squares. Use crosswalks, watch the uneven cobblestones near the river ramp, and keep the volume low enough to hear the city around you.
After dark, when the squares are lamp-lit and quiet — most evenings the walk is at its best from dusk onward. It works in daylight too, and the stories hold up rain or shine.
